Our sim: DISTURBED

Nov 052009

After a mornings work, I have finally restored the the beta test area of the GRPS/DISTURBED website.

It has been a crazy day, not helped by the DNS servers all switching of in a syncronised protest about who would get the best IP address, or something else – XD.  I still cannot find the reason for this anywhere.

Anyways, so the player stats, group stats, and games top rankers are back up.

I have changed a security measure, which I always planned to but never got the chance.  You may have to follow the reset password function to work.

Unfortunatly, I had to disable two testers, who will no longer show in any stats (other than the founder and alpha admin tables!).  It seems these two used a copybot.  I am glad for a simple routine I had included but never tested.  Turns out it works, yay.  The simplest things – XD.

Anyways, no names, but AR’s and proof logs sent.  Haha, maybe I should sell a copybot detection system!  But it does require a database outside SL, so not so practical for everyone.

Special thanks for the heads up on the website, seems it is a laughing point today.

*EDIT: So this failed to post because last night (about 1.30am) someone unplugged the UK’s DNS servers (I assume).  For us nothing was visible, no Second Life, no web pages, no email, no VPS, nothing.  A quick google search this morning returned no results.  Does make you wonder what or who is responsible for this.  But I created a phrase in my last twitter post: NETBLIND, thats exactly what we was.  We had a really good connection, just couldn’t use it.  XD

Ok, so I knew it was a bad move to have a few rum and cokes this evening, but I thought the worst that could happen is that I have a sore head in the morning.

Not so!

There I was clearing up the days play from the GRPS (Generic Role Play System) database and I gets a phone call:

Caller: Hey Tux
Me: Hey
Caller: Whatcha doing?
Me: Cleaning the GRPS DB, lol
Caller: Erm . . .
Me: You’ll have to help me out a little, I have no idea what you mean?
Caller: Checked the site yet?
Me: Yeah, you like the new look?
Caller: Not really, SQL errors suck!
Me: What?
Caller: Go look!
Me: Ok . . .
Me: Oh crap
Me: Oh lol I purged the wrong db
Caller is in fits of laughter!
Me: Erm . . . all the other DB’s are good
Caller sounds like she is choking from laughter
Me: Ok, you laugh, I am hanging up, gotta fix!
Caller: Hahahahhahahahhaaaaaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhh!!!
Me: Yeah, thanks – hehe – buh bye!

So ever since, I have been starting over with the website.  Take a look, tell me what you think: http://www.disturbed.me.uk

I am still adding the pages before I run a back up, so bare with me a little, please!

  • Modular Lua
I’m making some big changes behind the scenes in Lua. First of all, Lua modules (which bind Luna to Lua) are being broken up from one (SL) to many (Base, GL, Region are what have been completed so far).  This will aloow for faster development, as devs can work on their own modules without interfering with [...] […]
