I have been driven crazy since installing Karmic (Ubuntu 9.10 – codename Karmic Koala).  I have experienced all of the following:

• CPU: 90-100%
• SL Sounds Distorting
• Unable to connect to voice.

I see lots of requests for how to get Firefox working with Emerald, so here it is a not so simple run through (two methods):

Try this first (Windows users):

1. Open notepad.exe
2. Copy and paste the following into notepad:

3. Save file to desktop as secondlife.reg
4. Double click file and import into registry
5. Restart Firefox
6. Now you Firefox will either directly open the secondlife:// link or give you a menu with it as a choice, in which case you check the remember this setting box and launch

If the first method fails try this:

1. Open Firefox
2. Type about:config in the address bar
3. Click careful button if it appears
4. Right click the page and choose New : Boolean
5. Type (or copy/paste): network.protocol-handler.external.secondlife – and hit Enter
6. Select True
7. Right click the page and choose New :  String
8. Type (or copy/paste): network.protocol-handler.app.secondlife – and hit Enter
9. Type the path to Emerald.exe eg: C:\Program Files\Emerald Viewer\Emerald.exe
10. Type (or copy/paste): javascript:navigator.registerProtocolHandler(’secondlife’,'http://support.mozilla.com/value=%s’,'C:\Program Files\Emerald Viewer\Emerald.exe’); – into the address bar and hit Enter
11. Restart all instances of Firefox
12. Now you Firefox will either directly open the secondlife:// link or give you a menu with it as a choice, in which case you check the remember this setting box and launch
