Sandbox Goguen – Sun 14th March 2010

Ok, let me start off by saying I spend a fair amount of time around SL, but I love the sandboxes. I love creativity and watching the masses of variety pass through. Now, unlike others comments of masses of griefers, their is hardly any. Of course a few cagers (but nothing serious). Now, today I was wlking along when an automated cannon thing began shooting me. No big deal, I surrounded it with a sphere and did a few scripts I have been wanting to try. For containing such things.

I then removed my prims and stood back. You see the ANN turned up. Just a part of the Superhero themed ‘anti-griefers’. Once again, no problem. I figured they would come in contain and AR. Maybe two of them. Thats how it started, with three of them:

So they finally covered it with a 15m sphere. Which failed because it was not outside the rez radius. I used a 16m hollowed sphere inside a 20m one (to catch the escapees who passed through the first because of lag). After an eternity they realised this. so they used a 12 prim box to cover (about 18m). Yay. Still lag caused some to escape. But for the most part it worked.

Then for some unexplained reason Aaron (Blue Lantern Core) went into the box, drew a light sabre and began hitting the bullets, causing them to leave the box (but I guess he didn’t see this as he was obviously busy. After wearing himself out he got out.

At this point I would also like to say. Many of them was clearly having issues right clicking the gun. This was simply down to the mess of prims around the gun placed to try and stop the bullets. Cam people – CAM.

So, being so busy I welcomed any excuse to take a break.

An event was perfect. Open Mic Poetry. So I went along. As did Chapel (aka Dirtface), you cannot miss him, looking like the grim fandango, a scary tic-tac or a man with a fridge on his head, he wanders round making people smile.

Seriously, full of humour, he is often mistaken for a griefer. Although this is yet to be seen. I took a spur of the moment recording, I hope you enjoy!

Luna is the next advancement in Second Life viewers. Linden Labs have set their vision to the public with the difficult and clunky Viewer 2.0. Luna takes the hugely popular Emerald Viewer and adds even more function. The genius of it is simple (genius == Fred Rookstown), client flexibility beyond any current viewer. For example, automuting of all known griefer weapons, textures and sounds. Thats right, you just don’t see them, just a little message in chat to notify you a mute event has been processed. The biggest benefit is that things like HUD’s can process as much information locally as possible, then contact the server. Ultimately reducing the highly controversial subject of lag.

It is not just about the geek moment, far from it in fact. Luna will provide an extra platfrom inside SL for content creators to build better functionality and faster products.

I have been using it for a while, and to be honest, it is already very stable (aside from a known bug). I have had great fun distorting avatars (in no script/no build zones). I recorded the time when I got Teeple Linden on Help Island Public.

What is going on?

Wow, time runs away with me lately and before I notice I have missed loads. So I figured I would tell you whats been going on:

GRPS – Generic Role Play – As requested I have been rewriting to change the meters, within the game. At present the working of a random seed is to be included, for example: Your character is a street thug in a cyberpunk era. You go to mug someone. Would you get all their money? Not always, they may have hidden some in their sock. So the random seed factor creeps in. Also, the new version is trailing more server side calculations to prevent cheating. This will enable us to distribute weapons/addon scripts easier too. So unfortunately GRPS will stay in alpha, but I am allowing extra testers so those of you who applied for the beta will be bought on in alpha – YAY.

DISTURBED – Removed the big shop. Created a weapons shop and a photo studio. There is also a woodland and cave. Its crazy the number of times I change it, I know. But although a few people are not so happy at losing the clothing, I feel it isn’t justifying itself.

FLEXLIFE – Ok, here is the thing, LL release 3PVP statingthe viewer cannot have life in it. Great, thanks. So currently changes are being implemented to become a new name:

I actually think this is a good thing. A very dear person says ‘A change is as good as a move!’. So, despite the pain in the preverbial, rebranding goes on. Fred works his nuts off, and should slow down a little. But he wont – XD. Still excited about the new name and release. I am going to start on the Lua/Luna wiki. So finding out commands is as simple as using the wiki. The support ticket is going up too. As is the website. The features are massive with Lua. Watch the official blog (when its up fully):

JLU wiki statistics!

I thought it would be nice to show the stats for the JLU wiki. See Image:

Quite high traffic for a simple wiki. Maybe people are downloading the entire thing, idk. Or maybe lots of people are visiting. I am only monitoring the data transfered. I am not interested in who visits, or what their IP is, or browser, or even OS. The visitors are not recorded!

Anyway, the server is experiencing random attacks. All of which are minor. It is a slight pain in the proverbial, because it puts extra load on the server. No big problem, just slows the response down a little. Seriously, for a group who’s ideals are based on justice, FTP attempts, secret wiki’s, RL info’s, multiple in game offences and web server attacks? What next? Bubblegum in my door locks? JLU stickers on my cars? Please.

NOTE: It is possible the JLU is not reponsible for the attempts on this server, but, it started when they found the wiki and has been escalating since. I suppose it is possibly my stalker (who is the lamest ever), but I haven’t heard from him in a while and he has trouble tying his shoelaces. It is probable it is the JLU members.

Since the release of the wiki, my hosting of it, and the failed DMCA. There has been a lot of speculation as to who I am, etc etc. So thanks for the emails, IM’s, PM’s, Notecards and passing voice comments. Here is the most complete list of what I am not:

A Griefer (they are usually only a few days old)
A Nazi (I don’t think SL was around during WWII)
A JLU Member (it is not a ploy to raise awareness)
A Communist (idk much about politics, really)

An FBI spy (We don’t have FBI in my country, and do they spy?)
